Together In Perfect Harmony

Margot was one of those irritating people who think they know what you’re going to say before you say it. So when her son, Harold, said he had an important announcement, she already had all the answers.

‘The thing is, Mother, I’ve -,’

‘-met someone! Oh clever you!’

‘Well, yes, but it’s not that straightforward. I’m -,’

‘-gay? Wonderful! Miranda will be positively green with envy!’

‘No, Mother, not gay. I’m in love with my piano -,’

‘-teacher?’

‘No, my piano. We’re seeing each … Mother?.’

Margot swooned.

Harold caressed his beloved’s ivories, ‘Best not mention the baby yet, sweetheart.’

  1. You gotta love somebody who loves their music…instrument. I guess I can see from the pic how the baby was made. Yikers. Wouldn’t that be painful? Lovely story. I got a great laugh out of it.

  2. Very funny and original, and I’ve heard there are such people. Some of them are also gay and only go for inanimate objects whose gender in French is the same as theirs!

  3. Made me feel guilty that I too often interrupt when I’m excited. Very funny, quirky and enjoyable, as usual. Thanks!

  4. Who’s having the baby, the guy or the piano? I wish them a musical future! Guffawed out loud so well done.

  8. LOL. Wonderful voice from Margot – ‘Miranda will be positively green with envy!’ – I dunno. What some mother’s wish for! Please can we see the baby photos?

  9. Dear EL,

There was once a Twilight Zone episode where a computer fell in love with a man. One of their most memorable. As for your story. You must be certifiable. Please don’t ever seek help. I’m just glad I wasn’t drinking my coffee while reading.

    shalom,

  10. Honestly, what a hoot you Friday Fictioneers are. And, don’t we all know some irritating someone who either anticipates what we have to say or wants to top our statements with more fabulous statements of their own. Great story.
