Friday Fiction: Fugly and Fuglier

It’s been a while (again) but I thought I’d give this another go. Hope you like it 🙂

Fugly and Fuglier

Under the bridge, the trolls, Fugly and Fuglier, were bored and hungry. Nobody had come trip-trapping across in months and they were beginning to lose their troll-mojo.

‘Man!’ said Fugly. ‘I need to get me some goat, like now!’

‘I’m so hungry,’ replied Fuglier. ‘I could eat a horse.’

‘Horse? Ewww! That’s gross. Nobody eats horses.’

‘They do in France,’ said Fuglier, who had travelled extensively in his youth.

‘Seriously?’

‘Mais oui,’ said Fuglier, showing off.

‘Oh shit!’ said Champion (the Wonder Horse), as he gingerly tip-toed back across the bridge and headed downstream to find somewhere safer to cross.

  1. That horse probably went to find a bridge with less cultured trolls to cross. “Of all the trolls under all of the bridges, I had to come across the one that’s been to France!”

  2. El!!! Where have you been again!? Having a life without us?? LOL… So glad to see you back. And this was funny. And good! I think the trolls are going to be hungry for a while longer 🙂

    • HI Jackie
I’ve missed you and the Friday Fiction gang! I’ve been lazy and disinterested in writing which wasn’t a fun place to be, but I’m feeling the full Friday spirit today and hope to be back doing this more regularly from now on. Lovely to hear from you. Take care 🙂

  3. Lovely to see you back, El, so lovely that I skipped down, out of order even, to read your story and say hello. 🙂 Love the story, BUT no horses as food for anyone, French or otherwise. I hope life’s been treating you and yours well and that we’ll see you much more often.

  4. “Trit, trat, trit, trat, over the rickety bridge” – actually that bridge doesn;t look so rickety, perhaps after the horse went wandering over. French horse??? My French is limited to où est la plume de ma tante which is really useful in France. Great short story, keep them coming. Tony

  5. Dear EL,

Like Janet I had to jump ship and open your post. So good to see you here. You haven’t lost it. What a fun take on “Billy Goats Gruff”. I hope this means you’re back among us. At any rate I enjoyed your presence and your story.

    Shalom,

    • Hi Rochelle
I’m enjoying getting back into the FF mood! I think I lost my mojo a bit for a while but got it back with my trolls (without resorting to eating horsemeat!) I hope to get back to doing this more regularly again. Lovely to hear from you 🙂

  6. Lovely to see you back here and what a story, shades of Billy Goat Gruff and laughed at the mention of Champion (the Wonder Horse) I’d almost forgotten him. Well done and thanks for the memories.

    • Thank you. It was fun to write. They should have their own TV show: The Fugly and Fuglier Show! On 17 Mar 2014 19:40, “EL Appleby: Short Stories” wrote:

  9. Hahahahaha! Simply hilarious, El! And SO good to see you in the ranks this week. You’ve been missed terribly.

I could actually SEE Champion backing off. And those two trolls could have been the Two Ronnies for all I know. Thanks for making me laugh out loud!
