Perforated Walls

Maureen was suffering from palpitations, mood swings and night sweats. Her mother recognised the symptoms immediately.

‘The Change, Mum? Seriously? I’m too young!’

‘Nonsense, dear,’ said her wise old mum. ‘It comes when it comes.’

That night, Maureen felt worse than ever.

*

Come morning, Maureen’s mother clambered over what remained of the door, ‘How was your night?’

‘The facial hair’s pretty unpleasant,’ Maureen said, surveying the destruction of the previous night, the shredded curtains, perforated walls and splintered furniture. ‘But running wild, eating whatever I damn well please was seriously liberating . And you say this happens every full moon?’

  1. El, I should have seen that coming, but it took until almost the end. 😀 Hilarious. That picture looks like something torn apart by a werewolf (or at least a wild animal). Well written. 🙂 —Susan

  2. Nice twist! I was beginning to wonder what the story had to do with the photo and then you revealed the truth. Very clever!
I hope she doesn’t make that sort of mess every full moon 🙂

  3. I really loved this- a very unique and refreshing take on the prompt! I wasn’t expressing the werewolf from the beginning, so it was a delightful surprise. Awesome suspense here! 😀

  4. Oh, I liked that. I was going to say, when I went through menopause I didn’t destroy my room. Oh, werewolf. No I never went through that change. This so made me chuckle. Excellent . Well done. Lucy

    • Thanks – if anyone only read three quarters of this, they’d have a very strange idea of what happens during menopause!
thanks for commenting, and apologies for taking so long to reply 🙂

  5. I’m still smiling. I was still thinking, just a tiny bit beyond the facial hair parts, how lucky I was to have such an easy menopause. And then that ending – :P. Really unexpected…and great.

  6. Dear EL,

You’re seriously demented and I’m grateful that you share your madness with our group. Every woman’s dream…to eat anything we damn well please. Laughing out loud.

    Shalom,

I’m really late replying to my comments – it’s almost time for another prompt! I have a lovely time writing these stories, but am concerned that my madness is reaching new levels lately – what a good thing I have Friday Fiction as an outlet!

  7. Dear El, Awesome job. I didn’t see the werewolf coming and the twist was excellent. Great story and 28 days, comes another chance to be truly ‘free’. Nan 🙂

  8. So clever. There was I expecting the other change, but of course you set me up for that. Great ending to your tale and great results for her it seems too. 🙂
